Sell-Out Crowd at Annual Business Awards Banquet

A sell-out crowd of over 400 business leaders came together at the 33rd Annual Business Person of the Year Awards Banquet Thursday night to recognize the best and the brightest in the Whatcom County business community.

A highlight of the event at the Semiahmoo Resort & Spa was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Grace Borsari, co-founder Alpha Technologies; owner/CEO, Altair Advanced Industries.

Other winners included:

- Business Person of the Year—Matt Mullett of All American Marine, the leading manufacturer in North America of high-speed aluminum passenger ferries, eco-tour boats, hybrid vessels, dinner-cruise boats, and research/survey vessels;

- Small Business of the Year—Bellingham Training & Tennis Club (Robin and Doug Robertson, owners), the expanded facility in Fairhaven with a membership of about 800—an increase of 225% on the tennis side and 2,692% on the fitness side over the last five years;

Start-Up of the Year—Twin Sisters Brewing Company (Loren DeMuth and Terri Green, owners), which, within just five months of opening in Bellingham’s Sunnyland neighborhood, brought in $2 million in revenues and supported 120 employees.

The event was emceed by Tony Larson, president of the Whatcom Business Alliance and publisher of Business Pulse magazine, co-sponsors of the awards program.
